John van Bruggen, Fleet Administrator

Hi John! Can you share a bit about your career journey at Algeco?

Sure! Before I joined Algeco, I was working in import-export goods administrator in the air trade sector. I gained valuable experience in administration skills during that time. When I saw a vacancy at Algeco as a Logistics Administrator, I found it an exciting opportunity and a logical step for my further growth. I joined Algeco in August 2020, and my main responsibilities were making sure that all activities related to the inbound and outbound of the units were registered in the system, and that information about the projects was correctly reflected. In less than half a year, my job has evolved, and I now serve as a Fleet Administrator.

How would you describe your role at Algeco?

In my role as a Fleet Administrator, I oversee the management of our fleet, ensuring that every movement in the yard is accurately recorded in our Navision system. On average, we handle around 100 (low season) to 200+ (High season) units per week. This involves handling shipping contracts and drawings, conducting quarterly fleet counts, and reporting any damages to inbound units. Additionally, safety is a top priority in our depot, we do daily safety observations and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. I'm also supporting major initiatives within the depot, such as the Kaizen Operational Excellence events and the implementation of Morpheus.

What skills do you think are essential for your job?

Flexibility and stress resistance are definitely important, especially during the high season. I also believe that having a strong focus on safety (VCA/VOL mindset) and effective communication skills is crucial. Being able to multitask and adapt to different situations is essential in my role.

What motivates you in your daily work?

What's the most enjoyable part of your job?

I like being at the center of the action and being involved in the core operations of our depot. It's rewarding to ensure that every unit that passes through our yard is accounted for and properly managed. Plus, working with colleagues from different departments from Sales to Production keeps things interesting and dynamic.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I think they would describe me as friendly, polite, fair, and someone with a can-do mentality. I strive to approach every task with a positive attitude and a willingness to help wherever I can.
